When Buying Whole Life Insurance

  • Get at least two proposals from an independent life agent
  • Plan on holding your whole life policy for at least 15 years
  • Get all projections and cash values in writing
  • Compare the minimum guaranteed rates, if any
  • Question any projections that are ultra cheap or too good to be true
  • Find out if your rate class before you get your physical
  • Pay your premiums on an annual basis
  • Review your policy so that you're not under or over insured
  • Keep your policy in a safe place known by your beneficiaries
  • Avoid all tobacco because users will pay two or three times more
  • Prior alcohol or substance abuse will make you a high risk, unless you are clean for awhile
